White Cottage

The client wanted to develop the orignal run down stableblock into a studio and guest house. The existing property had been awkwardly extended over previous centuries. The aim was to create a building that read as one design, yet retained the character and sense of place of the existing.

The south facade was hardly changed as the client did not want the building to compete with existing main residence, however she wanted a surprise both externally and internally, on approach. Light and views were essential ingredients to the design and the main spaces interlock to create exciting views internally.

The west elevation was balanced with the regulating lines of the golden section.
